What makes a person HOT/cold? i mean temperature.:)

  • Physical activity: After strenuous exercise, the hypothalamus takes a longer time to bring the body temperature to the normal level. For example, after a long running race, the athlete may have a body temperature of 102 F (38.9 C).
  • Ovulation: During the two weeks before ovulation, the part of the menstrual cycle when an egg is released from the ovary, a woman may have a body temperature lower than normal. It then increases by about 1 degree, with ovulation. This is because progesterone, one of the hormones that regulate the menstrual cycle, is released at this time. This hormone causes an increase in body temperature, which is an indicator to show that ovulation may have occurred.
  • Pregnancy: Body temperature in women is increased during the first three months of pregnancy. This may be due to increased blood flow in a pregnant woman.
  • Newborns: In infants, the regulation of body temperature is not as developed as in adults. Their body temperature may rise when they are exposed to heat or when too many warm clothes are used. The body temperature may also come down very much, if the infant is exposed to cold. Babies also have a body surface area that is large in comparison with the body weight. Since heat loss occurs through the skin, a relatively large surface area increases the loss of heat.
  • Elders: Body temperature tends to decline with age. People older than 65 may have an average body temperature that is 1 to 2 degrees lower than those who are younger than 40. This may be due to a less-active metabolism, or because elders are less active. The sweat glands are also less active in the elderly and require higher body temperatures to trigger the sweating mechanism. This makes the elderly more prone to heat exhaustion.
  • Smoking: This could reduce the oxygen in the blood and constrict the blood vessels. Such changes could lower body temperature, especially in the extremities.

How Is Body Temperature Controlled?

The body adjusts its temperature in much the same way that the thermostat in a house works. The body’s thermostat is located in the hypothalamus (hy-po-THAL-a-mus), a small part of the brain that also helps control hunger, thirst, pleasure, and pain. The thermostat, called the thermoregulatory (ther-mo-REG-u-la-tor-ee) center, normally keeps the body’s temp hovering around 37oC.Like a house, the body has sensors that tell the thermostat if the temp inside is rising or falling. In the body, these sensors are cells located in the skin and in the brain itself If the sensors report that the body’s temperature is rising, the body’s cooling system clicks on, telling the cells to burn less fuel and produce less heat. The blood vessels expand to let heat escape from the skin, sweat pours out to cool the body as it evaporates, and the brain may get a bright idea: “Let’s go into the shade and have a cold drink.”

Nightingale, i hope i have answered your questions… 🙂

Do fish chew their food?

Not in the human manner. Carnivorous fish like sharks use their sharp teeth to seize and hold prey while swallowing it whole or in large pieces. Bottom dwellers such as rays are equipped with large flat teeth that crush the shellfish they consume. Herbivorous fish (grazers) often lack jaw teeth, but have tooth-like grinding mills in their throats, called pharyngeal teeth. Fish would suffocate if they tried to chew, for chewing would interfere with the passage of water over the gills, necessary for obtaining oxygen.

Chicken as pets!!!!

Chickens as pets

A day old chick

A day old chick

Chickens can make loving and gentle companion animals, but can sometimes become aggressive. Some have advised against keeping certain breeds around young children[citation needed], as the chickens can become territorial and violent. In Asia, chickens with striking plumage have long been kept for ornamental purposes, including feather-footed varieties such as the Cochin from Vietnam and Silkie from China and the extremely long-tailed Phoenix from Japan. Asian ornamental varieties were imported into the United States and Great Britain in the late 1800s. Distinctive American varieties of chickens have been developed from these Asian breeds. Poultry fanciers began keeping these ornamental birds for exhibition, a practice that continues today.

While some cities in the United States still allow chickens as pets, the practice is quickly disappearing.[citation needed] Individuals in rural communities commonly keep chickens for both ornamental and practical value. Some communities ban only roosters, allowing the quieter hens. Many zoos use chickens instead of insecticides to control insect populations.

Keeping a few chickens as backyard pets is surprisingly easy to do. The major challenge is protecting the birds from predators such as dogs, raccoons and foxes. The birds will need a secure place to sleep at night. This can be as simple or as elaborate as you like. For a few birds allowed to roam free during the day, a large doghouse-type structure with a locking door will serve just fine. Some kind of bedding such as straw or wood shavings should be provided on the floor. Nest boxes will make egg collection easier. If the birds are left in the structure during the day, a larger, more elaborate structure would be necessary.

Chickens naturally return to the same spot to roost every night. On most occasions they will put themselves to bed and your only job would be to make sure the door is shut and locked before nightfall. It is best to count the birds each night as sometimes a bird will not find his or her way back into the coop. A bird left out at night is likely to be killed by a predator.

Most chickens cannot fly well and are easily contained with 3-4′ fencing. Birds which are allowed to roam the yard during the day are quite effective at controlling insects of all types. Areas of bare dirt will benefit from the weed control and soil cultivation provided by the birds in their never-ending search for food. The birds, however, will pick at plants and grass and may cause some damage to ground-cover with their scratching. Also chickens will eat most any kind of food scraps.

The eggs themselves can be quite different from the store purchased variety. Fresh yolks are quite “perky” and stand tall above the white. The yolk color is frequently a deeper color than the pale yellow of commercially raised eggs and can at times be almost a dark orange.

Growing chickens can be tamed by feeding them a special treat (such as mealworms) by hand, and by being with them for at least ten minutes daily when they are young. Even older birds can be tamed considerably by hand-feeding leftover table scraps. It can be fun to help the birds forage by turning rocks over and watching them grab worms and bugs that typically can be found in these dark, moist areas. The chickens quickly associate you with a source of food and will become your constant companion when you are both in the yard.

Is there such a 海猴?hmm.

HA!!!!! Is there really a sea monkey in this world???? 🙂

sounds absurd mann…..

Does it look something like this??Go to fullsize image  *faint*

OF COS NOT!!!!!!!

It’s actually……

Sea-Monkey is a brand name of a hybrid of Artemia salina, a species of brine shrimp. These are a type of fairy shrimp — not true shrimp, but a branchiopod. The term Sea-Monkeys (sometimes unhyphenated) is a trademark used to sell them as a novelty gift. They originate in salt lakes and salt evaporation flats.

Sea-Monkeys can reproduce both sexually (requiring a male and a female) and asexually. When the eggs are laid, there are fewer males than females per “litter”. This is probably because they are not needed for reproduction. Females stop reproducing with the males when the males are too few.

Sea-Monkeys have been cited in studies of DNA and sexual behavior, primarily because they are commonly available specimens.

Artemia salina.jpg Dun they look disgusting???!!! YUCKS!!!

Sea-Monkeys are a hybrid of Artemia salina, (brine shrimp), called Artemia nyos. They were bred for their larger size and longer lifespan, making them more suitable as pets than the original breed of brine shrimp. The U.S. Patent 3,673,986  granted in 1972 describes this as “hatching brine shrimp or similar crustaceans in tap water to give the appearance of instantaneous hatching.” Adverts for Sea-Monkeys were widespread in comics in the 1970s, featuring drawings of smiling humanoid creatures that bore little resemblance to brine shrimp.

The key observation that allowed unhatched “Sea-Monkeys” to be cheaply packaged, shipped, and handled is that, in certain easily prepared environments, they enter cryptobiosis, a natural state of suspended animation. When released into their aquarium they leave this state and hatch.

Something new we learn everyday….. 🙂

Aries-Sagi Compatibility

When Aries and Sagittarius form a friendship, it’s often a rewarding match. These two are highly compatible; they have a dynamic relationship. Both are explorers and pioneers. This combination of personalities is always interesting, and both friends are forever searching for adventure. They both get a lot out of experiencing life, rather than just reading about it. They need to be careful: This is one of the more accident-prone duos! Aries is always in a rush and Sagittarius tends to look at everything but the obvious.Aries and Sagittarius make very good friends. They understand one another, and both view life with optimism and enthusiasm. Problems are rare, but sometimes Aries may be too overbearing for their freedom-loving Sagittarius friend. On the other hand, Aries is more sensitive than the jovial Archer; Sagittarius must be careful to think before they speak and say something too blunt. Even when they do have problems, these buddies forgive and forget easily. Both get over arguments quickly and don’t hold grudges.Aries is ruled by Mars, and Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter. Both of these Planets are masculine, so they tend to look at the world in the same way. Jupiter is about indulgence and aspirations, so Sagittarius likes to take a risk. Mars is all about taking the initiative. Whenever Aries comes up with a new idea–as they so often do–Sagittarius is eager to go along with their friend for the experience and the fun of it.

Both Aries and Sagittarius are Fire Signs. This combination can produce an eternal flame. Both are dynamic and always on the go. They have endless resources of energy, so it’s rare for one friend to fizzle out on the other. Although they may disagree, their differences of opinion don’t last long–Aries is too busy moving on to the next challenge to hold a grudge, and Sag will forgive and forget just as quickly.Aries is a Cardinal Sign, and Sagittarius is a Mutable Sign. Aries is the initiator of new ideas, and Sagittarius will accept these ideas as long as they are included in the plans. It’s unlikely they’ll ever fight over a trophy or recognition. While Aries does like the glory, Sagittarius is more than happy to be controlling events from the background. Both Signs are better at starting things than ending them, but while Aries gets bored easily, Sagittarius might resist moving on before they have learned all they want to know from a given situation. The best aspect of an Aries-Sagittarius friendship is their mutual tendency to be the pioneers and explorers of the Zodiac. They are well-matched in their enthusiasm, energy and drive. Their common interests and similar personalities make them a very compatible pair.

Hmmm… no wonder i’m always attracted to this herd of sheep… baaaa baaa…. 😛

Scorpio-Sagi Compatibility

When Scorpio and Sagittarius form a friendship, they need to ease into it, being careful not to jump ahead of the game. Their patience will be rewarded! Sagittarius thrives on variety, novelty and optimism. Scorpio values the experiences that strengthen the pair’s emotional ties. Early in the friendship, Sagittarius may feel somewhat tied down by Scorpio’s expectations, but if Scorpio can keep their emotions in check, this pair can have a powerful and exciting friendship. Scorpio and Sagittarius share a probing, explorative outlook on life. They delight in shared adventures. Sagittarius may find Scorpio stubborn and inflexible. Scorpio may think Sagittarius is at times too hot-headed. Together they enjoy sharing knowledge and seeing new places. Their friendship is always on the go.Scorpio is ruled by Pluto and Mars, and Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter. Mars is the God of War, paving the way for Scorpio’s determined, courageous character. Mars, when combined with Pluto, represents rebirth and renewal. Jupiter focuses on philosophy, higher learning, expansion, optimism, luck and travel. This combination of growth and masculine energy is why they admire and sustain one another.

Scorpio is a Water Sign, and Sagittarius is a Fire Sign. Sagittarius initiates projects from pure whim and spontaneous action, while Scorpio’s motives are more subdued. These friends may sometimes find it difficult to understand where the other gets their inspiration. However, if both agree that the friendship is important, then their loyalty and admiration will provide the most valuable support.Scorpio is a Fixed Sign, and Sagittarius is a Mutable Sign. Both signs tend to be focused on multiple projects, but only under the guidance of Scorpio will these tasks be completed. However, Sagittarius likes to move from project-to-project at will. Fortunately, it’s easy for Sagittarius to notice and appreciate Scorpio’s efforts, as the Scorpion is more stubborn and has stringent standards. In turn, Scorpio needs to give Sagittarius the freedom to explore their own space and interests. Scorpio can make Sagittarius’ ideas come to fruition, even if Sagittarius has lost interest and moved on. Sagittarius can teach Scorpio that flexibility is sometimes better than a resolute determination. The best aspect of the Scorpio-Sagittarius friendship is the security and flexibility they can give each other. They make a compatible pair once they learn to look at the world through each other’s philosophies and open up to each other. As long as they communicate and celebrate their differences, theirs will be a passionate friendship.

Hey babe, i guess we managed to go against the odds and make IT happen!!! 🙂

Dun ever eat in MRT station

This is really a TRUE story…
Date of Incident: 24th March
Time of Incident: 0900-1000
Venue of Incident: City Hall Mrt Waiting Area (before entering the gantry)

That day, i was actually on my way to the NATAS fair to book my June’s Korea trip… While waiting for my mama at the train station, hunger strikes me (hvt had breakfast). So went to Breadtalk to get a hotdog bun…. never know that such an innocent-looking bread could have nearly cost me a $500!!!
While walking back to the waiting area (stepping into the MRT stn), i called my buddy friend who jus broke up with his GF, decided to console him & chk out hw he was. I was talking on my HP, walking ard the area, totally oblivious of wat’s gg to happen to me next….. sigh
Suddenly, this pink-purplish unifomed MRT officer walked to me, with a stern voice, said.
“Miss, you are not supposed to eat in MRT. I have been watching you for sometime. Please give me yr IC. I need to FINE U.”
FINE ME!!!!!!!???????!!!!! shockmonkey.jpgi nearly fainted at this word.
I answered, ” Sorry Sir, i was not eating intentionally”
He said ” I have even made 2 annoucements that NO EATING & DRINKING is allowed here. But you still continued to eat and walk around”
At this time, a few other communters were looking to my direction… Super paisei…feel like teleporting myself to somewhere mann…
He continued,” Somemore u were walking and eating right under the sign saying NO EATING & DRINKING ALLOWED FINE $500.”
Well, what can i defend further? I am indeed at wrong… and the part where i walk and eat under the sign is super DUH mann…..
I obediently passed him my nRIC… (A lot of my friends said i shouldn’t have just pass him my IC so easily… But i am at fault. If i insist on not giving it, will i gonna be arrested for not co-operating with the staff, i might put under arrest by armed guards patrolling the station. I dun wanna my face to appear on papers next day mann)
I followed him to the station control. He came out with a register book..
I asked him, “May i know how much is the Fine?” (voice trembled a bit hehe)
“$500.”
I started to defend myself saying that i was not eating intentionally, and it was really due to hunger from breakfast. I was on the HP and hence did not hear the announcement. If i did, i will have leave the stn area…
Finally, he soften his stand and said that this will just be a warning for me… Bu “official procedure” he will need to show me the FINE in front of the CCTV camera = =””
Whatever… ahhhahha
Thanks Officer for letting me go with a warning…
Since then, i will have a phobia in wanting to eat/drink at MRT and everytime when there’s an annoucement, i will stop and listen carefully..
I guess i hv become a more law-bidding MONKEY after this…. :O

Back in action again

hihi…

i’m back from the short trip….. act i felt relieved when i step onto my motherland… dunno why… never miss home so much…..perhaps missing the bed.. HA!

I nearly lost my precious thingy during the trip…. Ran the fastest speed in my life when searching for it… Gosh.. never know i can run so fast mann… haha somemore i am an asthma kid… Shouted at the Nepalese security guard when he dunno wat i was talking about and i duno wat he was talking abt…. Hope everyone enjoy yrself tat day… Once again 生日快乐!!

Mimosa…..

A lot of things happened recently…. All drill down to the fact that we wanted to understand each other better.. Is it really so hard to understand a person? I guess tt’s realli the case.. Jus like Finger prints are unique, so do the humans’ character.. Some choose to express themselves explicitly, be it happy, sad or angry. Others will choose to bury the unhappy, angry and sad event to the deepest part of the heart, never will be found until perhaps one very fine day… Ha!

U know wat all these differences will eventually lead to? Conflict, Quarrel, Misunderstanding, Miscommunication. All the bad things u can ever think…

I am only child. I am not used to expressing my inner tots to anyone.. If i have to choose one to talk to, i would prefer talking to my mama or someone older/younger than me, bt definately not my peer.. Dun ask me why.. Cos somtimes i dun tik my peer can help me. I will jus add on to their worries. Older people can provide wise advice; Younger people give me a different perspective of the problem that i hv never tot of; Mama will understand my difficulties..

I guess being my peers sometimes might be a bit tiring… Really… i really do think so..

i feel that i am a puzzle that they can never decipher.. I’m actually just a simple monkey who wants everyone to be happy.. even at the expense of me being sad… jus as simple as tat..

i’m not being noble… I’m jus more lucky.. Cos i have u as my friends… people tat i’m willing to sacrifice for… 🙂

Don’t probe further? I wondered … I’m jus like a mimosa.. The more u touch i will close up… It will in turn create more stress for me… I jus need the right person to talk to… Not tat i dun care. It’s cos i care tat’s y i choose to close up… Sounds contracdictory??? Ha!! tat’s life… U dun wan to say things that u dun intend to say to hurt people u care about… Words once spoken cannot be retrievable… Cannot jus Ctrl + Z to undo….

I’m a Sagi… Talking straightforward has always been my trademark… But i also know along the way, dunno hw many pp have been *killed* by my frankness… I’ve learnt.. Think before u talk… Always think of wat i would have felt if i was him/her….  Tat’s wat i have managed for the past 5yrs… Dun wanna have the regret tat i had 5years ago… One time of deep hurt is enough… I can’t take it again…

Friends out there… Do not give up on me… Life is a learning process…. We are always learning from each other… While tears/sweat have been shed, ultimately it’s cos we care about each other tat we want to guide each other to lead the right path to FRIENDSHIP!

For the past 5 years, i’ve learnt to keep my tots. For the next 5 years, i will have to learn to open up.. Mimosa gotta learn not to be scared when being touched upon.

Where’s Monkey Island

My origins:
Monkey Island, near the village of Bray-on-Thames lies one mile downstream from Maidenhead and is within easy reach of Royal Windsor and London. It is generally assumed that the Island takes its name from the monkey paintings in the Pavilion, however, this is a popular misconception. The name derives from the earlier title of Monks Eyot indicating that monks were using the island, probably in association with their fisheries. The monks in question resided on a moated site near Bray Lock on the Buckinghamshire bank of the river from 1197 until the Dissolution.
